Portland Draws! is a show featuring local cartoonists, illustrators and printmakers set against the beautiful backdrop of Portland City Hall. Featuring works from over 17 local artists, live music, and free beer and snacks! Tables will be set up displaying comics and art for sale.

Oni Press’ Brandon Graham and Corey Lewis are taking the trip from Seattle to present new books, mini comics, and original art. There’ll also be fighting in the streets as Tri-Met is throwing the 5th Avenue Street Fair in Old Town from 5–10pm.

The Portland Zine Symposium aims to create greater communication and community between diverse creators of independent media and art. This fun, free and open event helps people promote their work and share skills and information related to zines and zine culture. Through hands-on and discussion-based workshops, the conference will explore the role and effect of all types of zines in and on undergound and mainstream culture.

September’‘s first Thursday will see the first public exhibition and appearance
by the enigmatic Al Columbia in over a decade. The exhibition will feature a large
collection of limited edition prints, original artwork, handmade books, and other
ephemera from his Orange Sunshine Company, much of it created especially for
this show. The artist will also participate in an informal Q&A during the event.

Sara G Rafferty, TBA-07 artist, artist-book maker, and co-editor of the art publication “North Drive Press,” will give an overview of her involvement in self-published books, projects, and a general “For-Us-By-Us” ethos.

Using examples from various webcomics, this one-hour overview will cover some of the how-to basics for selecting a concept, style and format, and the tools for translating your comic ideas to a digital form. The course will also explore options for putting your work on the Internet for others to see.

In Seattle—The Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery, in association with the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center, is pleased to present “Unseen Peanuts.” This collection of full size, rarely seen Peanuts strips opens with a daylong preview on Friday, November 23 from 11:30 until 8:00 PM, highlighted by an “Unseen Peanuts” slide presentation by Fantagraphics Books co-publisher Kim Thompson at 6:00 PM.
